Weekend trip: shoot up to Sandakan!
Originally it was just to send my aunt back to Wee Tee Tong Plantation, but mum said that we'd just extend the trip by going up to Sandakan. Well what the heck. Let's go! It was just my parents and me and Arin - sis Nadia was in KK for a tennis tournament. Here are some pics of the trip:
We went for lunch at the Giant mall - had pizza. Then we went hotel-hunting. Dad wanted to changed accomodations - we have stayed in Sanbay Hotel everytime we came to Sandakan. But lastly, it was Sanbay that felt most at home to us (and ample parking too!)
At first, we wanted to try out Tyng Garden, but it stated "reservation only, walk-in not entertained" which is bullshit.
Went up to our room - 231. Rested a while before going out to dinner. Then a movie at 9.30pm. Watched Robin Hood. I love historical pieces, and this is an outstanding one. It needed no prior knowledge of Robin Hood to watch, which will be VERY convenient for the typical Malaysian who reads a below-average amount of books (or much less, history). Cate Blanchett was stunning as ever, and the location is lovely!
Went back and called it a night.
Woke up at 10am the next day - just stayed between the sheets, reveling in the coldness of the hotel room and the coziness of the thick blanket. Took a shower, and we are all set to leave. Had lunch at bandar Indah, and left.
Until now, Sandakan has always felt strange to me. It has this aura of mystery, and it unnerves me every time I go there. Nonetheless, it is a quaint place, not a small town, but not yet a city. :)
